Today John and I went and saw Snow White and the Huntsman, which we (surprisingly) actually liked. After the movie, we headed back to my house. As we were sitting on my couch, we started hearing really loud thuds and claws scratching around. Although my initial thought was, "There's a psycopath in my chimney trying to claw his way into the house" (maybe I watch Criminal Minds too much?) it actually didn't surprise me for more than half a second because my family's been hearing noises for the past few nights. It's been really frustrating, especially to my parents. I can't claim that it's that bad for me because I sleep like the dead. So far I've been able to sleep through an earthquake, four years of our crazy dog barking at all hours, and now half a week of "things that go bump in the night." We even called an exterminator who came and looked up in the attic and said he couldn't find anything (then told us it was probably a mouse, that'll be $97 please). We told him there was no way that a mouse could be that loud, but he said that you'd be surprised. Basically he thought we were crazy. But as we were sitting there, John said that he thought the sounds were coming from the chimney. That made sense, because the exterminator hadn't checked there -- he said there was no way he could safely get up onto our roof. We went outside a few times during the night to "stake out" whatever was in there, but even with the flashlight, we couldn't see anything. So my dad will get up on the roof tomorrow to check it out and hopefully then everyone can get some sleep around here.
