{day 21}

Today was very exciting. Why? Because today we made the . . .
Warning: semi-scary picture below. My fireside photography clearly needs work. You have been warned.

For FHE we watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers because Rachael was assigned to for her Latin class (don't get it? Me neither. Apparently it has something to do with the Sabine -- Sobbin'? -- women). My favorite part was the scene where Adam walks around singing "Bless your beautiful hide!" over and over again. What a compliment. And I'm happy to announce that John and my dad both made it through (minus Dad running to the store to get chocolate when he couldn't take the singing anymore). After the movie, it was finally time to make the fire. And by "make the fire," I really mean "turn on the fire," because our fire pit runs off gas. Jared's off doing who-knows-what in Chile, so he wasn't here to sing the s'mores song, but I thought I'd share it with you anyway. He learned it from a computer game (Reader Rabbit's Kindergarten, maybe?) and every time we roast marshmallows I think about it.
Sticky sticky, gooey gooey, crunchy crunchy, chewy chewy, yummy yummy yummy in my tummy.
When we build a fire and we camp outdoors, what do we want?
We want s'mores!
Have you ever heard such aesthetic and inspiring poetry? I think not.
